Two mornings, laptops open, working with real scientific data. Leave able to use Claude in your own research — not just having watched someone else do it. When: a two-day workshop. Both mornings required. Day 1: Tuesday, July 21: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM Day 2: Wednesday, July 22: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM Each morning: arrival & setup at 8:00 · hands-on session at 8:30 · coffee break at 10:00 · second hands-on session at 10:30 · wrap by noon. The two days build on each other — please register only if you can attend both in full. After our first Seattle meetup drew over 80 researchers and scientific software developers, we're going deeper. This will be a small, hands-on workshop with participation limited so every attendee gets real instructor time. You'll learn to ask Claude for help when you feel you need to go beyond Excel and PowerPoint. The workshop will span the everyday work of scientific research: exploring and cleaning data, building analyses and figures, keeping a Claude lab notebook on GitHub, and turning results into something you can share. Claude will write the code. You will learn to explain what you want Claude to build. This is an introductory workshop for people who do scientific or data-intensive work and want a real, guided start in using Claude. Who's teaching: A team from UW Genome Sciences - MacCoss lab — including researchers and professional developers from the Skyline project — with one lead presenter and three to four instructors circulating as helpers at all times. Come ready: Bring a Mac or Windows laptop you can install software on. To make the most of our limited time, please install everything below in advance. A paid Claude plan is required (Claude Code is not on the free plan). Click each link to get started: Paid Claude subscription (Pro or Max): claude.ai/upgrade Claude Desktop app (Mac/Windows): claude.com/downloadWe will use the "</> Code" tab for Claude Code. Free GitHub account: github.com/signup We'll email more setup details once you're accepted, and we'll have time at 8:00 each morning to help anyone finish up. Seats are limited, and attendance is curated to keep the group small and the help-to-attendee ratio high. Tell us a bit about your work when you register; we'll follow up with confirmations and setup details.
